Review/Monday Night Raw 2/11/08

A main event featuring Shawn Michaels and Jeff Hardy? Better yet, they are fighting one on one!! Can’t I just fast forward to the end? I could if I had a damn DVR. Keep clicking those advertisements…and you my friends can make it happen.

Hornswoggle vs. Vince

Well at least we can get it over with early. As expected Finlay comes out to make the save. I guess he’s FIIIIIRRREDDD!!

Hornswoggle wins with the tadpole splash- 5:48

Well that was quick and painless. Moving right along…

Vince backstage tells Regal to get some dismissal papers prepared. Interesting Vince takes them on the road with him.

JBL vs. Chris Jericho

I’m stunned that they gave these guys away on free television, basically guaranteeing that the feud is over. Not that I’m complaining but I thought they had enough juice in the rivalry to get a WrestleMania rematch. Either way probably on par if not better than their ppv match. Clean win for Chris Jericho? I’m impressed. Glad they gave them enough time as well in the ring.

Chris Jericho wins with the code breaker- 13:50

After the match Umaga gives both men the Samoan spike! What was even the point of JBL bringing up he bought Umaga’s services if it only lasted three seconds. But point well taken, this Sunday is every man for himself.

Vince decides firing Finlay is too good for the son of a bitch. Next week? Hornswoggle vs. Vince in a steel cage match. I’m startled that they didn’t put this on No Way Out. Kind of goes along with the name doesn’t it?

Maybe The Big Show will help Hornswoggle from under the ring just like in 1999. Remember? Austin vs. Vince? Same month? February? Cage match? Sure it’s a long shot…but if it happens I’ll look like a booking…GAWD. Imagine Big Show throwing Hornswoggle through the cage like he did Austin? The Austin throw was like a Tom Glavine change up. A Hornswoggle throw would be like Big Unit heat baby.

WWE airs an anti steroid commercial? That’s like Snoop Dogg shooting an anti weed commercial.

The AGE OF INCEST…HAS BEGUN.

Paul Burchill vs. Brian Kendrick

Decent little squash match. Poor Spanky. At least Mr. Kennedy didn’t beat him up this week. Unique move set for Burchill, but we’ll see how well he looks in a real match.

Paul Burchill wins with the roll the dice- 2:55

Mark Henry vs. John Cena

Gee I wonder who is going to win this one.

John Cena wins with STFU- 2:55

Basically a straightforward way for Cena to show he is ready to compete without having him beat somebody significant. Why is Henry on Raw again?

Cena lets Randy Orton know, who is sitting at the announce table, that he is 100%. Randy Orton refuses to make eye contact because he’s terrified of Basic Thuganomics.

I’m actually digging this storyline. If you think about it…John Cena is NEVER the favorite in a World Title Match. He is always booked as the under dog. Frankly, this guy has dominated the WWE Title scene for the last two and a half years…the man is not an underdog and it’s about time he’s booked as what he truly is/was...a dominant wrestler. It’s good storytelling. Randy Orton has never beaten John Cena for the title and he’s scared. Me Likey.

Mr. Kennedy calls out Ric Flair and we have ourselves a verbal confrontation! And I have myself an orgasm. Seriously if you didn’t mark out for this promo your not a wrestling fan and should be slaughtered. Back to the segment, Flair was on his promo game tonight and Mr. Kennedy may be the most obnoxious heel in a long long time. And that’s a good thing. The man does his job very well. And just to prove it! He drop kicks Flair in his wounded knee. Bastard, and he mocks Ric Flairs strut with an injured knee. Tremendous.

Maria vs. Melina

Melina wins the match after Jillian Hall makes out with Santino. Some distraction. - 2:54

Santino gives Maria the ultimate ultimatum. Playboy ….or Santino. Well if Maria chooses playboy, at least Santino has Jillian and her manly face.

The video package of Triple H inside an elimination chamber was a must. Missing the previous two weeks before a pay per view would be suicide for any other wrestler…but with HHH’s name value and history, he’ll be ok. He’s still my favorite to win! But more on that in the NWO Predictions.

Shawn Michaels vs. Jeff Hardy

To say I was looking forward to this match would be a colossal understatement. In fact! I recorded it for my massive custom made wrestling DVD collection. The great thing about Shawn Michaels is he’s been around for so long, yet you can still get excited for his matches against the younger talent. No complaints from me here. The match met my high expectations for these two. On a side note, does it ever alarm anybody else that Jeff Hardy ALWAYS looks exhausted?

Jeff Hardy wins with a Swanton Bomb- 19:50

I’m amazed on two things with this main event. One that they got 20 minutes to wrestle is almost unheard of nowadays. And second…Shawn Michaels lost cleanly on television?!? I can’t remember the last time that has happened and it definitely was needed in this case. If Jeff Hardy loses this match…there is no chance in hell of him winning The Chamber. But with the win? He goes into The Chamber with the most momentum and it really doesn’t affect HBK that match. HBK still has a chance to win this match even with the loss. Hardy is hot now, his crowd reaction hasn’t slowed down, and he needs to keep winning.

We got two pay per view quality matches with JBL-Y2J and the main event, a great promo between Flair and Kennedy…not too shabby. I’ll be buying No Way Out, so I guess job well done?

Another great blog. Keep up the good work.

I was suprised that they kicked off the show with the NO DQ match. Knowing Vince it seemed like Main Event material. Luckily, I missed that match.

I tuned in right at the end of the JBL/Jericho match. This feud had enough heat to run till Mania, but oh well.

What was the point of the JBL/Umaga angle? And who would hire a guy that belongs in a zoo... and how did they negotiate? Umaga can't speak a proper langauge!

I like the Big Show idea, although i think sending Horny through a cage will kill the little guy... then again...

I missed the anti roids commercial. I guess they frown upon steroids after what happened to Benoit.

What is this... the 3rd time they are trying to rebuild Burchill?

I changed the channel when Henry vs Cena came on. Henry is drenched in sweat before he even gets to the ring.

How can a bald maniac fear a rapper?

I loved the Kennedy/Flair promo. Flair is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time. Kennedy? One of the best heels WWE has had in a while. Mix them together, and you've got some five star promos. Kennedy's head and hand motions scare me a little... and how he always has a piece of gum in his mouth...

Poor Santino. For some reason that kiss reminded me of Boogeyman biting off that thing Jillian used to have on her face... eww.

Great match between Hardy and HBK. I was very suprised when Hardy beat HBK clean. I was hoping for a big blowout ending, where all the guys in the chamber would have a huge brawl. But that couldn't happen because Hunter missed another show. That flake...><

Pretty good show overall.

HBK VS Hardy was good, but Hardy's no sell of the leg and back towards the end ruined it for me.

Hardy has improved, but he's far from where he 'could' be.

Random thoughts...

- Melina had some pretty innovative offense and really impressed me. I mark out
for Jillian too... is that bad?
-Santino's an amazing character and a complete prick, it's great.
-I love how Kennedy interupts people. It's subtle to where it doesn't
overshadow what's being said by the other person but it makes everything seem
so much more realistic and less scripted.
-Completely agree with whoever said the roids commercial was a joke. My
girlfriend and I both cracked up about that. I'm sure they could have come up
with a better way to get that point across.
-I'm interested in seeing how long it's gonna take them to pull the trigger on
the incest angle with Burchill before completely crossing the line and make a
few million people extremely uncomfortable.
-I really dug Umaga samoan spiking Jericho AND JBL. I truely believe that
Umaga could get over as a face if pushed properly.
-The No Way Out card looks promising but I gotta question two chambers on one
show. I'm guessin the Smackdown one will be a quick affair... possibly the
opener?
- I HATE Londrick jobbing. HATE HATE HATE it.
-Despite some stellar promo work the whole JBL/Jericho feud just bores me.
Possibly because it doesn't look good on paper and I never gave it a chance but
I just can't get into it.

entertaing show to say the least.

The Jeff-HBK Main Event was one of the best Televised main events I've ever
seen, PPV quality!

Jeff is going somewhere, He may only get the IC belt, but
he brings honor to that title, and the moment Cena gets injuried again, he's
the biggest pure-face on monday nights,

(Thank god Lashley is gone, all the
faces are moving up a Notch)

The 02/11/08 edition of Monday Night Raw was good indeed. Thankfully the Vince and Hornswoggle "NoDQ" match didn't end up being the main event. Finlay still has a job because since firing "Finlay is too good for the son of a bitch." Next week in a cage match it's McMahon and Hornswoggle in a cage match, sounds like main event material to me. Yeah right after I had a few beers of course.

JBL vs. Chris Jericho feud has great heat in it yet it was on TV for free, it could've extended to 'Mania for a hell of a match. I guessed the folks in the Northeast had other ideas. Very good match though, a clean win for Jericho very nice indeed. Umaga and JBL striking a deal together?! Please it's every man for themselves come this Sunday.

I can't imagine Big Show coming from under the ring to toss Hornswoggle through the cage like he did Austin back in Feb. 1999 because he's more likely to go flying over the damn cage instead. WWE with an anti-steroid commercial?! I wonder what good would that do.

Oh look it's Paul Burchill and he's on Raw now. And to top it off, he's going to be in an incest angle. He had a decent squash against Brian Kendrick whom I feel sorry for ever since he and London came from Smackdown and have been used very lightly.

Cena easily takes care of Mark Henry. Big deal moving right along. Cena's definitely ready for Sunday. Enough said.

Orton and Cena should have a great match since the heat between is intense and Cena is fianlly viewed as a dominant performer like he has been for the past 2-3 years. When Cena has the ball he runs with it and brings in big business unlike 75% of the bodies in the company. Orton maybe the big heel but his back is against the wall and he has to come out swinging come Sunday.

Flair and Kennedy, sounds great to me. I'm looking forward to it especially after the promo work they did in the ring on Raw. The two of them going back and forth was great TV. Not to mention Kennedy's dropkick to Flair's bad knee which Flair sold well. And then Kenney mocking him with the limp strut walk added insult to injury.

Maria's doing Playboy and Santino's great at drawing good heat as a heel. Now the Mellina and Maria match wasn't good by a long shot. And then I felt sorry for Maria after she was kissed by Santino. If you seen the show, you'd know why.

Main event: Jeff Hardy vs. HBK in a 20 minute showdown, this was PPV quality stuff. HBK proves every night that he can still can do it after all these years and Hardy's current run and momentum made along with proving he can hold his own in the ring was great to see. With Hardy winning cleaning, Hardy looks like a favorite in the Raw Elimination Chamber match. While HBK still has a shot as well.

I can't wait until Sunday.
